A young man named Mike Keaty and I founded a company we called the Small Business Advancement Institute. Our initial mission was to help small businesses with their advertising. We both had a background in advertising and marketing and felt there was a real need for our type of service.
We initially produced two publications: the Advertising Handbook and Consumer Trends a book based on market research in the area that taught them how to reach their customer. These two products were powerful tools that could be used by a small business to go head to head with their larger competitors and carve a niche to succeed in business.
We focused on teaching and providing research for these small businesses and necessary counseling to help them succeed with their marketing and advertising.
Our formula was flawed because we didn't take into account that most small business owners didn't have the sophistication to work with the materials that we provided.
